Today, we reflect on God’s steadfast love and the witness of St. Eligius—a man who rose from humble beginnings to become a master craftsman, a royal advisor, and finally a holy bishop known for charity, integrity, and compassion.

Heavenly Father,
As I begin this new month, fill my heart with the same honesty, kindness, and dedication You poured into St. Eligius.
Help me to work with integrity, serve others with generosity, and follow Your will with courage.
Purify my intentions, guide my decisions, and strengthen my faith today and always.
Through Christ our Lord.

Saint of the Day: St. Eligius

St. Eligius (also called St. Eloy) was born near Limoges, France, and trained as a skilled metalworker. His honesty and talent became legendary—so much so that he was called to serve King Clotaire II as treasurer and royal adviser.

Despite his high status, Eligius remained humble and deeply charitable. He used his wealth to ransom slaves, feed the poor, build churches, and care for orphans. Later in life, he became Bishop of Noyon-Tournai, where he preached tirelessly, fought pagan superstitions, and guided thousands to Christ.

His kindness, craftsmanship, and love for the poor made him one of the most beloved saints of medieval Europe.
