Today, the Church remembers Saint Augustine of Canterbury, the missionary monk who brought Christianity to Anglo-Saxon England and became the first Archbishop of Canterbury.

His courage, patience, and deep trust in God transformed a pagan nation into a cornerstone of English Christianity.

As we reflect on today’s Scripture and his legacy, we’re invited to recommit ourselves to being bold witnesses of the Gospel in our own lives.

Daily Prayer

Heavenly Father,
You called Saint Augustine of Canterbury to preach the Gospel in a foreign land.
Grant me the courage to speak of Your truth, even when it is difficult.
Help me to trust in Your plan and to be patient with those who resist change.
May I be an agent of peace and unity, just as Augustine was.
Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Mass Readings

First Reading: 1 Peter 1:10–16
Peter reminds us that the prophets of old longed to see what we now have in Christ. As obedient children, we are called to live holy lives, for “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 98:1, 2–3ab, 3cd–4
“The Lord has made known his salvation.”

Gospel: Mark 10:28–31
Peter asks Jesus what reward awaits those who have left everything to follow Him. Jesus assures them of great blessings, both in this life and eternal life, but adds, “Many that are first will be last, and the last will be first.”
