Today, as we begin the beautiful month of May — traditionally dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary — we are invited to reflect on the dignity of human work and the importance of living our daily lives in union with Christ. The saint we honor today, Saint Joseph the Worker, is a perfect model of humility, diligence, and trust in God.

Today’s Prayer

O Glorious Saint Joseph,
Model of all who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in a spirit of penance for the expiation of my sins; to work conscientiously by placing love of duty above my inclinations; to work with gratitude and joy, considering it an honor to employ and develop by my labor the gifts received from God.

Assist me to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, without ever shrinking from weariness and difficulties.

Help me to work above all with purity of intention and detachment from self, keeping death in mind and the account I must give of time lost, talents unused, and good omitted.

Amen.

Saint of the Day: Saint Joseph the Worker

Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, is honored today under the title “the Worker” — a celebration instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1955. This feast highlights the dignity of labor and honors Joseph as the model of all who work with their hands and hearts to serve their families and communities. Joseph’s silent, faithful example reminds us that our work, no matter how ordinary, becomes extraordinary when offered to God.
