Daily Prayer
Lord Jesus, in the spirit of Saint Pachomius, help me to live a life of discipline, humility, and service. Teach me the value of community and the power of shared faith. May my work and prayer be united in purpose, drawing me ever closer to You. Strengthen me when I falter, and surround me with fellow believers who lift me up in truth and love.

Jesus tells His disciples that their sorrow will turn into joy. Though they will grieve, their grief will become a joy that no one can take from them.
Saint of the Day
Today, May 9th, the Church honors Saint Pachomius, often considered the founder of Christian cenobitic monasticism (communal monastic life). Born in Egypt around 292 AD, he was a pagan soldier who converted to Christianity after experiencing Christian charity while in the army.
He later became a disciple of Saint Anthony the Great and eventually established a community-based monastic rule that balanced prayer, work, and communal living. His rules greatly influenced later monastic orders, including that of Saint Benedict. Saint Pachomius reminds us of the importance of discipline, service, and the strength of spiritual brotherhood.
3 Interesting Facts about Saint Pachomius
- He established one of the first monasteries in Tabennisi, Egypt, around 320 AD.
- His monastic rule was written in Coptic and later translated into Greek and Latin.
- At the time of his death, it’s believed over 7,000 monks followed his rule across several communities.
