Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, welcome to today’s Catholic Prayer of the Day. As we begin this new week, the Lord invites us to open our hearts to His transforming grace, to walk in the path of justice, and to embrace the power of mercy and forgiveness.
Catholic Prayer of the Day
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the gift of this new day and for the countless blessings You have poured into my life.
You are a God of justice, truth, and mercy. Protect my heart from the temptation of greed, jealousy, pride, and selfish ambition. Help me to rejoice in the blessings of others and to trust in the plans You have prepared for me.
Lord Jesus Christ, You have shown me the path of perfect love. When I am hurt by others, give me the strength to forgive. When I am misunderstood, help me to remain patient. When I am treated unfairly, teach me to respond with grace rather than resentment.
Holy Spirit, fill my heart with humility and peace. Remove all bitterness, anger, and hatred from my soul. Make me an instrument of Your love, bringing kindness where there is cruelty, hope where there is despair, and forgiveness where there is division.
Lord, I entrust to You my family, my friends, my work, my struggles, my plans, and my future. Bless those who are suffering today, especially the poor, the sick, the lonely, and those who have been victims of injustice.
May I always seek what is right, defend the dignity of every human person, and walk faithfully according to Your commandments.

Mass Readings of the Day
First Reading: 1 Kings 21:1–16
The Sin of Greed and Injustice — Naboth’s Vineyard
King Ahab desired the vineyard of Naboth because it was located near his palace. Although Ahab offered to buy it or exchange it for a better vineyard, Naboth refused because the land was an inheritance from his ancestors given by God.
Ahab became bitter and discouraged over not getting what he wanted. Seeing his sadness, Queen Jezebel devised an evil plan. She falsely accused Naboth of blasphemy through dishonest witnesses, causing him to be condemned and killed. After Naboth’s death, Ahab took possession of the vineyard.
This tragic event reveals the destructive power of greed, jealousy, abuse of authority, and the willingness to sacrifice justice for personal desire.
Reflection
How often do we allow envy or selfish desires to influence our decisions? The story of Naboth reminds us that every person has dignity and that no earthly possession is worth harming another human being.
God calls us to choose honesty over deception, justice over power, and compassion over selfish ambition.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 5
“Lord, listen to my groaning.”
The Psalm teaches us that God is a just judge who does not delight in evil. He hears the prayers of those who seek Him sincerely and protects those who walk in righteousness.
Reflection
Even when injustice appears to prevail, God sees every hidden action and every wounded heart. We can bring our struggles, disappointments, and suffering before Him with confidence, knowing that His justice and mercy never fail.
Gospel: Matthew 5:38–42
Love Beyond Revenge
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus challenges the ancient principle of “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” Rather than responding to evil with hatred or seeking personal revenge, Christ calls His disciples to overcome evil with generosity, patience, and mercy.
Jesus teaches us to turn the other cheek, to give generously, and to love without counting the cost.
Reflection
Forgiveness is not weakness; it is a powerful expression of trust in God. By choosing mercy instead of revenge, we imitate Jesus, who forgave even those who crucified Him.
Today, the Lord invites us to examine our hearts:
- Is there someone I need to forgive?
- Am I holding onto anger or resentment?
- Can I respond to hostility with the patience and love of Christ?
Overall Reflection of the Day
Today’s readings present a powerful contrast between two ways of living.
In the first reading, greed, pride, and the misuse of power lead to injustice and the death of an innocent man. In the Gospel, Jesus reveals a higher path — the way of mercy, forgiveness, humility, and selfless love.
The world often tells us to fight for our rights at all costs and to return hurt for hurt. Christ teaches something much greater: a heart transformed by God does not seek revenge but seeks healing, reconciliation, and peace.
The challenge of this day is to reject jealousy, bitterness, and hatred and to become instruments of God’s justice and mercy.
Saint of the Day: Saint Vitus
The Story of His Life
Saint Vitus was a young Christian martyr who lived during the late third and early fourth centuries. He was born in Sicily into a wealthy pagan family. From an early age, he embraced the Christian faith and developed a profound love for Jesus Christ.
According to ancient Christian tradition, Vitus was instructed in the faith by his tutor, Saint Modestus, and cared for by his nurse, Saint Crescentia. When his father discovered his conversion to Christianity, he attempted to force his son to renounce his faith and return to pagan worship.
Despite his youth, Vitus remained unwavering in his devotion to Christ. He chose suffering rather than abandoning his faith. Because of the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian, Vitus, along with Modestus and Crescentia, was arrested and subjected to severe torture.
Tradition tells that Vitus was brought before the emperor and was asked to offer sacrifices to the Roman gods. He refused, boldly professing his belief in Jesus Christ. His courage amazed many who witnessed his suffering.
Several miracles were attributed to him, including the healing of those who were possessed or suffering from physical and mental afflictions. Although he endured terrible trials, his faith remained firm until his martyrdom around the year 303 AD.
The devotion to Saint Vitus spread widely throughout Europe during the Middle Ages. He became one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, a group of saints especially invoked during times of illness and suffering.
Today, Saint Vitus stands as a powerful example that age does not limit holiness. A young heart completely surrendered to God can become a witness that inspires generations.
