Today the Church remembers St. Philip the Deacon, one of the seven chosen to serve in the early Christian community in Jerusalem.
His witness reminds us that Christian service is not only preaching or teaching — it also includes caring for the needy, building community, and bringing Christ’s love to the margins of society
Prayer of the Day
Almighty God,
You inspired St. Philip the Deacon to serve with humility and zeal in caring for the tables of the apostles and the needs of your people.
Grant that we too may serve with joyful hearts, unselfishly sharing your love, caring for those who are overlooked, and building up your Church in unity and peace.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Saint of the Day: St. Philip the Deacon
Philip the Deacon appears in the Acts of the Apostles. He was among the first deacons chosen by the Twelve Apostles to serve the tables so that the apostles could devote themselves to prayer and ministry of the word. (Acts 6:1-6)
Philip is also well known for his evangelizing work. After persecution scattered the early Christian community, Philip went down to Samaria and proclaimed Christ there. Signs and wonders accompanied his preaching, and many believed. Later, an angel directed him to go further, where he encountered the Ethiopian eunuch on a desert road. Through this encounter, Philip baptized him, demonstrating that the Gospel is for all people.
Philip’s life is one of humble service, bold proclamation, and crossing cultural boundaries — from Jerusalem to Samaria, and from Samaria to Africa. He models what Christian mission looks like: serving, teaching, accompanying, celebrating faith wherever God leads.
