Today, we honor Saint Matthias, the apostle chosen to replace Judas Iscariot. Though little is recorded about him in Scripture, his selection shows the early Church’s commitment to unity and continuity. Saint Matthias reminds us that God’s call can come quietly, yet powerfully, to those who are faithful and ready.
Daily Prayer
Lord God,
You called Saint Matthias to complete the number of the Twelve. Through his intercession, grant us the grace to answer Your call with courage and humility. Help us to be faithful witnesses of Your love, always ready to serve in Your name. Amen.

Brief Overview:
Saint Matthias was chosen by the early apostles to replace Judas Iscariot and restore the group of Twelve. He had been with Jesus from the time of His baptism until His ascension. Though his later life is not well-documented, tradition holds that he preached the Gospel and died a martyr.
Interesting Facts:
- Saint Matthias is believed to have preached in Judea, Cappadocia, and around the Caspian Sea.
- He is often depicted holding an axe or halberd, symbols of his martyrdom.
- His feast was established in the West in the 11th century and remains a celebration of faithful apostleship.
