Here are the Mass readings for Saturday, March 8, 2025, which is Saturday after Ash Wednesday:
First Reading: Isaiah 58:9-14
In this passage, the Lord promises that if the people remove oppression, false accusation, and malicious speech from among them, and if they offer assistance to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted, then their light will rise in the darkness, and their gloom will become like midday. The Lord will continually guide them, satisfy their needs, and strengthen their bones; they shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 86:1-2, 3-4, 5-6
Response: Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.
This psalm is a plea for God’s attentive ear and mercy. The psalmist acknowledges their poverty and neediness, seeks preservation of life, and expresses trust in God. They call upon the Lord all day long, lifting up their soul and seeking joy, recognizing the Lord’s goodness, forgiveness, and abounding steadfast love to all who call upon Him.
Gospel: Luke 5:27-32
In this passage, Jesus calls Levi, a tax collector, to follow Him. Levi leaves everything, follows Jesus, and hosts a great banquet for Him, attended by many tax collectors and others. The Pharisees and their scribes complain to Jesus’ disciples, questioning why He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus responds that those who are well do not need a physician, but those who are sick do; He has come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance.
